You may be able to request repeat prescriptions without an appointment if your doctor feels it is appropriate. The general rule for most routine medications is you will need to visit your doctor or our prescribing clinical pharmacist every six months.
From 1 February 2026, changes to prescribing rules mean that some patients may be eligible to receive prescriptions for up to 12 months. Find more information here.
Requests received are completed in 2 business days. Additional fees are incurred for any urgent requests.
Be aware, an appointment may be required so plan well ahead of when you need your medications.
There is a charge for repeat prescriptions with the exception of children under 14yrs of age.

HIPs (Health Improvement Practitioners) are registered health professionals who work alongside GP’s and nurses, helping out when any problems with living and stress are having an impact on our hauora (health and well-being).
The HIP can practically help with:

Any of the Devon Medical Centre GPs can give travel advice aimed at keeping patients healthy and safe while overseas.
Your GP consultation will include reviewing your medical history and recommending appropriate vaccinations depending on the destination.
They will also advise on how to reduce the risk of you getting common travel-related illnesses like food and water-borne infections, insect-borne diseases (e.g. malaria or dengue), and managing jet lag or fatigue.

Dr Pat Leary is a licensed Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Medical Examiner.
Dr Leary is authorised by the CAA to assess whether aviation personnel are medically fit to safely perform their duties.
There are four types of medical certificates:
Class 1 – for any airline and commercial operations
Class 2 – for private operations in helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft.
Class 3 – for air traffic controllers
DL9 driver licence medical certificate – allows restricted light GA aircraft operations. To be able to fly on a DL9, it needs to have been approved under at least a class 2 (2,3,4,5) licence class category, with passenger (P) endorsement.

Our ADHD clinic is a GP-led service that provides professional, specialist GP care locally, with timely, face-to-face assessments designed to be fair and accessible for everyone.
ADHD Assessment Purpose:
ADHD is diagnosed through clinical judgement and criteria
No single test exists to diagnose ADHD
Some patients may have traits (characteristics) of ADHD but may not meet the diagnosis of ADHD
Other conditions may be identified that need to be managed first before an ADHD assessment can proceed
Some patients may not be suitable for GP ADHD assessment and may require a referral to a specialist psychiatrist

A health coach walks alongside patients to help them make and sustain healthy lifestyle changes, understand their care, and feel confident managing their own health.
They support whānau to bridge the gap between themselves, general practices, and other community services. Health coaches also provide early intervention and support to patients, groups and whānau for both mental and physical health conditions in people of all ages.

Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) in New Zealand, or desensitisation, is a long-term treatment (3–5 years) for moderate-to-severe allergies like hay fever, dust mites, or bee venom, often providing 5–10 years of relief.
It is administered via monthly injections or tablets/drops under specialist guidance to build tolerance and reduce reliance on medication.

Most of the Devon Medical Centre nursing team hold the qualification of a Community Nurse Prescriber.
Community Nurse Prescribers can assess, treat, and prescribe medicines for a range of common and ongoing health needs. They often support patients with long-term conditions, wound care, infections, contraception, pain management, and medicines reviews, working closely with GPs and the wider healthcare team to provide accessible, coordinated care in the community.
Examples of some of the services the nursing team can provide are:
Annual asthma medication reviews
Antibiotics for an infected wound
Treatment like pain relief and antibiotics for ear infections
Urine infections - test and treatment (for women)
Conjunctivitis drops or ointment
Antibiotic treatment for strep throat
Sexual health treatment e.g. thrush, sexually transmitted infections

Is your ‘Warrant of fitness’ current?
We believe that illness prevention is important when it comes to maintaining good health.
A Health Warrant of Fitness starts with blood tests to check cholesterol, diabetes, liver, kidneys and prostate for men.
This is followed by an appointment which will include a comprehensive nurse screening medical then through to your doctor for a physical examination, a review of both family and personal risk factors, and a discussion about test results.
